~•{ Using mobile phones while driving }•~

There are many useful and harmful inventions around us. One of these is the mobile phone. Should we have to use mobile phones while driving? We will take about the harmful effects of using it and how we can solve this problem.

There are many harmful effect of using mobile phones. First, Many accidents occur because drives are not focusing on the road. For example, it is dangerous to drive alone at night so you should have a mobile to summon help from police in an emergency. Also if you are driving a long way to remote areas where there are no lights in the roads or a desert for example you may need help if your car breaks down. When the accident happens, same limes people die in it. Many people die and many children live without father or mother or both.

There are many ways to prevent this bad phenomenon. First, teach the young student in school and college to not use mobiles on the road while driving. Second, make advertisements in the radio T.V and in the streets. Finally, make Laws against those who use the mobile phone while driving.

All in all, in my opinion we have to respect the street to respect us. If all people follow sensible rules we will live a happy life.

A woman's role

Is a woman’s proper role in society to pursue a career or to be a mother and wife?

Traditionally a woman’s role has been as a mother and wife. However, more and more women worldwide are being educated to a high level and are pursuing careers. Does this pose a threat to the upbringing of young children and to social stability?

There are many reasons why a woman should be at home to look after her children. Children need their mother’s love and attention. A mother substitute, like a maid, however caring, cannot provide the same emotional support that a child needs. In addition, a maid may not speak the child’s language and there may well be cultural differences. A mother plays a crucial role in developing her child’s language and cultural awareness. Even worse, if there is no mother and no maid at home, children will feel neglected.

On the other hand, women have an important role to play in society. If intelligent women want to pursue careers, why should they not have the same opportunity to do so as men? Women have a lot to offer to society, which would be poorer if they couldn’t do so. In the West, it is generally accepted that women have the choice of whether to pursue a career or not. Of course there are more traditional societies where this is more difficult.

In an ideal world, a woman should be able to pursue a career and also have time to bring up a family, but it’s not an easy task to get the balance right.

US farms & farm workers 1910-2000

This graph shows the number of workers compared with the number of farms 1910-2000. I’m going to describe this situation below.

The biggest change was the sharp drop in all farms and workers. The drop was from 1910 to 2000. The biggest drop was for workers from 1950 to 1970. It fell from 10 million to 4 million workers. The farms number didn’t change from 1910 to 1930 and the number of farms was 5 million. The workers became 3 million and farms became close to 2 million and it stayed the same to the year 2000.

All in all, I can see from this graph that the numbers of farms and farm workers declined in the twentieth century and the number of farm workers is always bigger than the number of farms.

Mobiles in the classroom

We can say the mobile phones were allowed 20 years ago because not many people had mobiles or laptops in the classroom but nowadays, if we do research about who has a mobile phone we will find each person has one phone at least.

Mobile phones can be allowed for some people or some students in the classroom. First, a newly married student should check on his wife because she is alone in the home. Second, students who have children must be able to contact them. Finally, the mobile phone can be allowed for the businessman to make sure he knows how his business is going. For example, sometime if he doesn’t answer a call he may lose many millions.

On the other hand, mobiles in the classroom are not useful. The first point is that students can’t focus on their studies. If the mobiles are allowed they will receive calls and text messages. Second, there are games in the mobile phones. Now the new phones have games and that takes the attention of the students away from their lesson. Next, the noise of sending and receiving calls and messages will distract all students in the whole class. Finally, talking in the classroom is not polite, it means there is no respect for the teacher.

In summary, there are many disadvantages of using phones in the classroom. I think students can bring their mobile phones but they have to keep them silent.

Traffic congestion & parking problems

Traffic congestion and parking problems are a big problem in the world. Nowadays, most cities have these problems, just like Abu Dhabi.

First, increased population means there are big families and the percentage of young people is very high. It means we will find more cars on the roads. Second, economic development in Abu Dhabi. Before the economic development there were not as many buildings as nowadays. That means you could park everywhere and near your home. Third, the weather in Abu Dhabi in summer is very hot and it is not suitable for walking or biking to work or to home. Finally, lack of an adequate public transport system. For example, Abu Dhabi does not have a train system like Dubai.

As we see we have written many causes for these problems; however we will supply the solutions. The first solution is to make sure each building has an adequate parking. Next they have to improve public transport. For example, supply more buses and trains. Another solution is they should raise the age of licence holders to 25 because most accidents happen to young people. Finally, improve the existing road system. That means making bridges, overpasses and underpasses.

In summary, there are many causes and solutions but the most effective cause is lack of adequate public transport. I think the best solution for it is to make it a rule for new buildings to have adequate parking space.

Water shortages

Water shortages in the UAE

The UAE is a desert country, with very little annual rainfall, and so there is a constant problem of water shortage.

The most obvious reason for the shortage of water is the rapid population growth. More people means more food and this has led to a growing demand for an increase in agricultural production, which in turn means more irrigation and therefore more water. In addition, the economy of the country has expanded enormously over the past 50 years. Industrialization has greatly increased the demand for water. The climate of the UAE makes it difficult to meet the increased demand for water. There is very little rainfall and no surface water. Wastage of water and leaking water pipes make the situation worse.

Desalination is perhaps the most obvious solution. It’s expensive but the UAE is a rich country. Similarly, making better use of underground water is not cheap but it would help to answer to the problem. Dams to store water when it does rain have already been built in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Charging people more for water, educational programmes in schools and colleges, and national advertising campaigns could also raise public awareness of the problem.

In practice, the UAE gets most of its fresh water from desalination plants. This is the most obvious short-term solution. In the long run, however, raising public awareness of the problem and encouraging people to use water more responsibly is the most important factor in solving the problem of water shortages.
